5th Annual Floyd Mardi Gras Costume Ball

mardi-gras-2014You could help get a kid to New Orleans simply by eating the great cuisine at Floyd’s 5th Ball—Blue Mountain School’s signature fundraiser. Former House of Blues Lead Saucier Jason Loftus is leading the Blue Mountain High School Culinary Arts class in preparing all the food for this year’s event, and all catering proceeds are going towards a trip to New Orleans for the students!

And the gourmet delights don’t end there, event sponsors Parkway Brewing Company, Villa Appalaccia and Buffalo Mountain Kombucha are on board to provide the drinks.

Of course it’s not all about gourmandizing. Crazy costumes, great live music, a comprehensive auction, and awesome prizes all combine to make this the funnest fundraiser this side of the Bayou. Meanwhile, the Kiddy Gras pajama party—held on the same site—allows the whole family to have fun at this 18+ event.

For the first time ever, every member of the main band (Lagniappe) has previously performed at Mardi Gras. Fronting the band is Kerry Hurley (The Fat Daddy Band), Annual Mardi Gras Costume with Hoppie Vaughan (Ministers of Soul) on bass, Tom Snediker (The Kind) on guitar, Jamiel Allen (Alliens) on keys, and George Penn (The Floorboards) on drums. These are some of the finest performers in the region, and every single one of them knows how to get your feet dancing and your body moving. Opening for Lagniappe are local bands Time Is Art, and Mardi Gras staples and Blue Mountain School alumni Spoon Fight.

The Kiddy Gras children’s pajama party is once again being run by Blue Mountain School teacher Corey Avellar, and will feature plenty of treats and fun activities. Tickets for Kiddy Gras must be bought in advance.

Silent auction items this year include Emily Williamson’s original Mardi Gras poster artwork and a print of Greg Ward’s portrait of Tom Ryan, with plenty more to be announced; and the prizes include Chef’s Choice  for two at Mickey G’s for the best costume, and Floyd PFLAG are keeping it with prizes for Best Woman to Man costume Best Man to Woman costume and Best Rainbow outfit.

Tickets are available now at Republic of Floyd, Blue Mountain High School, Blue Mountain Elementary School, Black Water Loft, Floyd Fitness and online via www.bluemountainschool.net.
